Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion or Microderm is a non-invasive cosmetic procedures designed to smooth out the skin by removing dead cells, bumps or scars. Over time aging, sun damage, genetic disposition, skin problems such as acne, scarring and enlarged pores can contribute to wrinkles and a rough or uneven skin texture on the face.

Microdermabrasion is generally used around the face and neck as these areas are exposed to the elements as well as visible to other people. Different methods are used in microdermabrasion including mechanical abrasion using zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles or a roughened surface such as a cloth embedded with creams containing these particles.

More commonly these days, creams containing micro-particles designed to assist the microdermabrasion process are applied to face and neck, massaged and then removed with a cloth. Microdermabrasion can be used to remove sun-damaged or dry skin, remove or reduce scars raised above the skin surface such caused by acne and to remove or lessen skin spots on the skin.

The procedure is generally not painful and requires no anesthetic however may feel slightly sensitive after the procedure. After any treatment is important to rest and ensure adequate water is consumed in order to maintain hydration to the treated skin areas. You should always consult your doctor beforehand if you have not previously had a microdermabrasion treatment.

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash Extensions are a cosmetic procedure whereby synthetic single fiber polyester threads are applied the eyelid to create a fuller and longer eyelash look. The extensions are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. They provide length and thickness to your own lashes and are available in varying lengths, colors and thicknesses. Eyelash extensions have become another product available to the individual in their quest for a modern makeover.

Eyelash extensions are now popular all over the world. Extensions should be applied by qualified practitioners and should not be completed by the individual because of the bonding agents and care required when working around the eye in order to avoid injury..

Modern technology allows creation of authentic and natural feeling eyelashes as well as looking like your natural eyelash. They can be worn during sleep, showering and swimming however the more frequent the exposure of the eyelash to liquid substances, a greater likelyhood of a decrease in the life of the bonding adhesive. They are designed of course to allow you to shower or bath without falling off immediately.

Eyelash extensions are different to false or fake eyelashes in that they are applied to one lash at a time as opposed to fake eyelashes which come as a complete set of bonded eyelashes and are attached in whole to the eyelid. Eyelash extensions can last anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks dependent on your activity and the quality of application.

Application of individual eyelashes is generally painless however it can take from 1 to 2 hours to apply the eyelashes dependent on how many you wish applied. A lash extensionist carefully applies the "lash" with tweezers and a bonding agent (commonly cyanoacrylate adhesive). It is advisable not to allow water to touch your new eyelashes for at least 6 hours.
